Told in his own plain and unpretentious style, Nevin Hurst’s memoir of a long and occasionally turbulent life is an account of a journey from humble beginnings in rural Tasmania to leadership in the world of Australian art.
From a tough but often idyllic country childhood under the eye of a stern and unpredictable father, through a young manhood at a time when everyone had to be ready with his fists to survive, Nevin Hurst tried his hand at many trades, from trapping rabbits to excavating peat bogs to aviation, before his abiding curiosity and a driving urge to create led him to make a career doing what he loves best.
Today he presides over Hobart’s leading fine art gallery; he is a recognised authority on numerous artists and a successful painter in his own right.
With a foreword by Dr Barry Jones AO.

Errol Flynn and the Sword of Fate is now available. At more than 130 pages with more than 130 illustrations, it’s the brightest book yet published about Tasmania’s most famous son.
Read about his mysterious ancestry, his colourful parents and his mischievous youth before he embarked on a life that became a legend both on and off the screen — and a family connection with the dramatic mutiny on the Bounty.
